Harrison couldn’t keep up with host Evart on Friday night, falling to the Wildcats 27-12 in non-conference football.
“We are improving,” Harrison head coach Mike Petrongelli said. “We played with more emotion and never gave up.”
A first quarter touchdown run from six yards out by Zack Nowland helped Harrison stay within 7-6 after the first quarter, but two long touchdown pass plays in the second propelled Evart to a 20-6 lead at the half.
Evart tacked on another touchdown in the third quarter, with Harrison closing out the scoring in the fourth on a Ryan Johnson five yard run.
“Not controlling the offensive line and mistakes on defense,” Petrongelli said of reasons for the loss. “We need to improve execution on offense and reduce mistakes on defense. We need to keep working hard and keep improving.”
Nowland finished with 32 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries and Johnson ran 10 times for 24 yards and one score.
Justin Yager was four-of-eight passing for 83 yards.
Harrison (0-2) hosts Farwell (1-1) tonight in both team’s Jack Pine Conference opener. Farwell is coming off a 28-6 win over Marion last week, though the Hornets topped the Eagles 35-20 last season.
“Farwell is a very quick team,” Petrongelli said. “They have several very good backs who run hard. We have to control both lines of scrimmage and keep their backs from running.”
