Harrison led visiting Evart after the first quarter of Thursday’s non-conference football game, but after that it was all Wildcats as the visitors won 34-7.
Cody Rodgers scored on a one yard run in the first quarter to give Harrison a 7-0 lead, but Evart put up 27 points in the second quarter to lead 27-7 at the half and added another score in the fourth to account for the final.
“We need to keep working hard and keep improving,” Harrison head coach Mike Petrongelli said. “The team played with a lot of emotion.”
Jacob Stuhr led the offense completing 10-of-24 passes for 90 yards and one interception and added 54 yards on the ground on nine carries.
Jake Walraven ran for 22 yards on 5 carries, Rodgers finished with 20 yards and one touchdown on 10 tries and Ryan Johnson had 14 yards on six carries.
Walraven added five catches for 60 yards and Rodgers had two grabs for 12 as Harrison finished with 197 yards of total offense.
Walraven also led the Hornets on defense with nine tackles, Nate Lipovsky had seven takedowns, Clay Dennis had five tackles and one fumble recovery and Bret Coughlin had four tackles and one fumble recovery.
Harrison (0-2) hosts Roscommon (1-1) today in both team’s Jack Pine Conference openers. The Bucks lost 28-20 to Grayling in week one and easily handled Oscoda last week, winning 50-0. Harrison lost last year’s meeting 21-15, though won the four previous meetings between the teams.
“They are a good team,” Petrongelli said. “We need to keep improving in all areas.”
