A Harrison man is in custody for the Wednesday evening fatal shooting of a man and woman in Marion.
According to a press release from the Michigan State Police Mt. Pleasant Post, Donald Feneis, 27, and Gabriel L. Woodworth, 23 of Sears were shot and killed by Blake D. Hullihen, 26, of Harrison around 5:55 p.m. in the parking lot of the Citgo convenience store at the corner of M-115 and M-66.
The MSP release said there had been an on-going child custody dispute between the victim Woodworth and Hullihen.
Blake Hullihen surrendered to Clare County authorities after the shooting.
Hullihen and his father went to the home of Clare County Sheriff John Wilson about an hour after the shooting, where Hullihen surrendered to the sheriff.
Clare County Sheriff John Wilson said in an interview Thursday that Hullihen’s father Dan Hullihen pulled into his driveway around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and came up to his door, asking to speak to Wilson in private. “We went into the kitchen and he handed me a large frame semi-automatic handgun and told me his son had just shot two people with the gun. He said Blake was out in the car.”
Wilson continued, “I sent my wife and son upstairs immediately (my other son was already up there) and called 911 to report what was going on. Then I went out to the car and took Blake into custody.”
“I understand why he (Dan Hullihen) brought his son to my house,” Wilson said, “although it was very upsetting for my wife and children at the time. He knew and trusted me. I’m just thankful it all worked out all right and no one was hurt.”
Wilson said officers arrived at his home and took Blake to the jail where he was held until officials from Osceola County and the State Police came and took him to the Osceola County jail.
Michigan State Police troopers from Mt. Pleasant, Cadillac and the Grand Rapids Laboratory as well as officers from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the double homicide.
The Osceola County Emergency Medical Services and the Marion Area Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
Hullihen is incarcerated at the Osceola County jail.
