The Harrison volleyball team is off to a 1-3 start in Jack Pine Conference play this fall. The Hornets won their league opener against Farwell on Sept. 5 but have come up short in their next three. Harrison topped Farwell 25-21, 18-25, 25-16, 18-25 and 15-7, lost to Beaverton on Sept. 12 25-15, 25-8 and 25-16, dropped a game with Meridrian 25-18, 25-8 and 25-18 and fell to Roscommon 25-18, 28-30, 25-19 and 25-15.

“I have 11 girls on the roster, one of those from Germany in Johanna Ciecior,” Flemming said. “My captains this year are Abby Fillhard and Paige Mogg, both are doing a great job leading their team. My libero this year is Julia Jackson and she is doing a great job taking charge of the defense. Leading the team with kills is Alexys Carlstrom on the outside then Sara Gillespie in the middle and Jadyn Rauch on the backside. Kaitlyn Pell is a serving machine as well as a defense specialist. The two sophomores I brought up this year are Erin Coughlin and Taylor Price-Hamm, they are coming along great each adding their own talent to the team. On new senior to us this year is Paige Sanderson, she plays back row and has fit in with the team from day one.”

Flemming also commented on the play of the program’s junior varsity team, coached by Tori Blystone.

“She has been doing great things with her team and two weeks ago they took the championship at the Farwell tournament,” Flemming said. “They played their hearts out, got a taste of the winning side of the game and love it.”

Harrison hosted a quad match on Wednesday, heads to the Shepherd Invitational on Saturday, plays in a non-league quad in Freeland on Monday and hosts Beaverton on Wednesday.
“We are still trying to find the right fit for everyone and we are getting close,” Flemming said.
