Heartland show pumps up skill for 4-H

By Sherry Landon

On Saturday June 10 several youth from Clare County 4-H and surrounding counties gathered to show rabbits, poultry and cavy. The Heartland show, a tradition from years past was back again in 2017 ready to give youth an early summer work out and refresher of showmanship skills.

Visiting participants came from far and wide in hopes of taking home a ribbon, trophy or prize.
The show was a great way to practice showmanship for upcoming fairs as well as a good way for youth to have their chickens and rabbits checked out to see if they are in top condition.

This year’s show featured a costume class for chickens, rabbits and cavy along with the traditional education exhibits, posters, photography, quiz questions and a silent auction.

If you are interested in 4-H or want more information on how to show a rabbit, cavy or chicken you can contact the MSU extension office at 225 W. Main St., P.O. Box 439, Harrison, MI 48625, Phone 989-539-7805.
