The Star Spirit Award is the MMI equivalent of an Employee of the Year award. Nominations are submitted to the President and he selects an individual who contributes in unique ways to MMI’s mission of “Enriching Lives through Employment, Training and Community Access”. At a recent MMI event, staff were recognized for their longevity and dedication. It was during this event that the Star Spirit Award winner was announced as Sandy Heckert.
Sandy first began her career at MMI as a Connections Coach in the Clare Branch in January 1998. Sandy demonstrates a positive attitude and upbeat personality whether it’s while riding the bus, working in MMI’s Sensory area, playing games with senior citizens at Northwoods or Tendercare, or spending time in the Art program where she works with individuals who need more hand over hand practice and gives them quality attention while making it fun to be creative.
She also inspires the group from Horizon Senior Center with fitness and has even gotten an individual to play the piano for them who hadn’t played it for years. Sandy has a knack for knowing what individuals need and how to get them involved. She is a true team player and her coworkers appreciate her for everything she does
