A police chase that involved two departments let to the arrest of a 27-year-old Matthew Williams of Shepherd Sunday.

Isabella County Dispatched notified the Sheriff’s Department around 2:12 a.m. that the Gratiot County Sheriff’s Department was in a pursuit near the County Line Road and Loomis Road.

Gratiot officers lost sight of the 2007 Dodge Nitro, which was located by Isabella County deputies.
Their repeated attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful and the pursuit led down Loomis Road to Blanchard and then towards Wise Road before the Williams vehicle lost control and rolled into a field.
Williams was taken to McLaren Central Michigan Hospital for evaluation where he was medically cleared and then transported to the Isabella County Jail.

A female passenger in the vehicle refused treatment at the scene, according to the release from Sheriff Michael Main. She told officers that Williams had hit several road signs and a guard rail before the initial pursuit with Gratiot County.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for a blood draw at the hospital because alcohol is suspected as a factor in the incident.

Williams was arraigned in Isabella County Court on two counts of fleeing police, one count of operating while intoxicated and one count of reckless driving.
