A 54-year-old homeless man who had been living with a Freeman Township family was arraigned Tuesday on first degree criminal sexual conduct.

Kim J. Thomas, who has been living with the family periodically over the past 10 years, was ordered to leave the home when the family discovered he had been having sex with their 14-year-old daughter.

Police said it had happened several times while he stayed with the family.

After ordering Thomas to leave, the family called to report the crime and Troopers from the Michigan State Police Mt. Pleasant Post found the man walking down M-115 while on their way to the family’s residence to investigate.

Troopers interviewed the family and Thomas and found cause to arrest the man. He was taken to the Clare County Jail and arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 80th District Court by Magistrate Karen Willing on one count of first degree CSC, which is punishable by up to life in prison.

His bond was set at $500,000 Cash surety/10 percent.

Thomas remains lodged at the Clare County Jail.

A preliminary examination has been set for July 7, at 2 p.m. according to District Court in Clare County.
