Harrison couldn’t keep up with host Meridian Friday night, falling to the host Mustangs 48-13 in Jack Pine Conference football play.
“We played hard the whole game,” Harrison head coach Mike Petrongelli said. “We missed several scoring chances early in the game. We made several mistakes that Meridian capitalized on that quickly turned the game. Meridian did a good job of controlling the line of scrimmage.”
Meridian scored the first touchdown of the game midway through the first quarter, getting a Zach Arthur fumble return for the score from 25 yards out. Dan Burns booted in the extra point.
Christian Petre ran in from 20 yards out Burns booted in his second extra point of the night to give Meridian a 14-0 after the first.
Jacob Wenzlick ran in from one yard out and Christian Petre tossed a 28 yard touchdown pass to Wenzlick to go up 28-0 at the half.
Wenzlick opened up the second half with a bang as well, returning Harrison’s kickoff 86 yards for another score, though the extra point failed, leaving the score 34-0.
Cody Rogers put Harrison on the board with 10:07 to play in the third quarter, but Arthur scored on a three yard run to put Meridian up 41-6 after three.
Jake Walraven found the end zone just over two minutes into the fourth and Rogers booted in the extra point. Arthur scored from three yards out with 6:49 for Meridian to close out the night’s scoring.
Jacob Stuhr completed five-of-18 passes for 70 yards and one interception and also added 44 yards on eight carries. Justin Yager completed seven-of-15 passes for 68 yards and one interception.
Rodgers had 41 yards and one touchdown on six carries and had two catches for 20 yards, with Walraven adding 20 yards and one score and nine carries and made two catches for 25 yards. Bret Coughlin had three catches for 53 yards and Randy Johnson had two catches for 20 yards.
Walraven added six tackles defensively, Coughlin and Nate Lipovsky both had five.
Harrison (0-4 overall, 0-2 JPC) plays at Beaverton (3-1, 1-1) in another JPC contest. The Beavers are coming off a 26-21 win over Houghton Lake last week, though Harrison has won the last four meetings between the team teams.
