Joseph (Joe) Willey, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at North Woods Nursing Center in Farwell. He was born the son of Jefferson and Rachel (Mayo) Willey on May 14, 1934, in Clare County, Michigan and graduated from Farwell High School in 1952. Before retiring Joe worked as a Journeyman Pipe Fitter at Dow Corning in Midland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, coaching, and was a high school Umpire and Referee. He was very active in the community and served as President of the Farwell Labor Day Committee for several years and was involved with the Big Brother organization. Joe will be remembered by all as a loving and gentle man.
Joe is survived by his wife of 49 years Beverly (Howe), their daughter Rose Willey of Farwell, his former wife Barbara (Vasbinder) and their children, his daughter Sherry (Willey) Herber of Mount Pleasant, his son Jerry Willey of Pinckney, his daughter Connie (Powell) Napier of Mount Pleasant, his brother Ed Willey and wife Camilla (Howe) of Farwell, his grandchildren, Brandon Willey, Laura Willey, Brian Willey, Nick Herber, Rochelle Herber, Ashlea (Napier) Brunk and Emma Napier, and his many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jefferson Freeman Willey.
A celebration of Joe’s life will take place on Tuesday, April 10, at 2:00 PM at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with visiting from 12 to 2 PM.
