Amazing Grace missions and the Houghton Lake United Methodist Church helped to replace a roof and renovate a part of Joshua’s House in Clare.

A new roof for Joshua’s House is now a reality thanks to the Amazing Grace missions group from Houghton in the Upper Peninsula and another group from Houghton Lake United Methodist Church in mid June.

The two groups tore off an existing sunroom, rebuilt another large room in its place that will be divided into three rooms, and began to work on the front face of the structure. They set trusses with the help of Jim Paetschow who loaned his Skytrak which allowed to workers to lift the trusses and put them on the roof to then be set in place.

“It all happened so fast, I am still trying to absorb all that has been completed”, remarked Renee Jeffords, Executive Director of Joshua’s House. “All I kept saying was ‘I am so excited, this is wonderful, I can’t thank you all enough’ it was really great”!
Following the setting of the trusses Jim Griffor and Scott Losey from Husky Metal Roofs Inc. arrived with their crew and gifted the shelter with a new metal roof!  Pictured above is Griffor with his crew as they put the finishing touches on the caps of the roof.

There is still much to do in order to complete phase one of this project such as electrical, closing off of the soffits and roofline while finishing the interior rooms being prepared for the moms and their babies. These renovations will allow us to house six women instead of only two.
