What started out as a possible kidnapping – wasn’t an abduction after all, according to a release from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department.

On Monday, around 6 p.m., a Harrison resident called 911 to report that they heard a “young child screaming that she was being kidnapped.” They said they believed the child may have left the area in an older orange Dodge pickup.

Deputies responding to the call located the truck. The truck, occupants and residence where the truck was found were checked during the investigation, and Deputies determined that there wasn’t an attempted abduction.

Under Sheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski said, “It sounds like someone thought they heard it and saw the truck leaving the area. No child was seen, involved or approached.”

Sheriff John Wilson thanked the citizen for reporting something that appeared suspicious and urged others to do the same and “to keep a watchful eye in the future in our community as this helps to keep our children safe.”
