They keep coming close, yet the Harrison Lady Hornets can’t seem to crack into the win column Tuesday, night, falling 40-33 against visiting Marion in a non-conference girls’ basketball game.
Harrison trailed 9-3 late in the first quarter but Carli Bushell hit a three-pointer before the end of the period to make it 9-6 after one.
Dani Cullen hit a pair of free throws early in the second quarter to close the gap to 10-8 and another charity shot by Lexi LaChappa made it 10-9, though Harrison could just hit one more field-goal the rest of the half, a close-range bank shot by Aja Heber as the Hornets fell behind 19-14 at the half.
Harrison fell behind 23-15 in the third quarter, though a quick 5-0 run, capped by a coast to coast basket by Cullen that made it 23-20.
The Eagles gained a 29-20 lead before a free throw by Kate Sherrick made it 29-21 entering the fourth.
Nicole Willman, Cullen and Sherrick all hit shots in the fourth to help pull Harrison within 33-29, but the Hornets could only add hoops by Willman and Allyssa Haag the rest of the way as Marion hung on for the 40-33 win.
Willman led Harrison with eight points, Cullen had seven, Heber had five, Sherrick and Bushell both had four, Haag and Ashleigh Woolston both had two and LaChappa had one.
On Feb. 6 the Hornets played at Farwell in a Jack Pine Conference game, falling 47-32.

Lexi LaChappa led the Hornets with 11 points, Carli Bushell and Jessica Scherrer both had six points, Dani Cullen and Nicole Willman both had four and Kate Sherrick had one.
Harrison (0-16 overall, 0-12 JPC) hosted Gladwin on Thursday and plays at Merdian Feb. 20 to finish the regular season.
