The Harrison girls’ basketball team was one and done in the class ‘B’ district tournament this season, falling to Chippewa Hills 54-28 at Big Rapids Monday night.
“It’s a long ways over there and we just couldn’t put the ball in the basket,” head coach Carl Anderson said. “We played pretty good defense, especially at the start.”

The Hornets trailed 10-4 after the first quarter and were still down only four points with a couple minutes to go in the half, before disaster struck, leading to a 27-15 halftime deficit.
“We were down four with the ball with a minute to go in the first half,” Anderson said. “We let them score nine points in the final minute though. We had two turnovers and put up a couple poor shots and they scored every tiem off it and that was the turning point.”

The Lady Warriors carried a 27-15 lead at the half and continued to pull away form the Lady Hornets in the second half as Harrison struggled to find its offense.
Jessica Scherrer led the Hornets with six points and Aja Heber put in five. Lexi LaChappa and Ashleigh Woolston had four points apiece.”
On Thursday, Feb. 27 Harrison played at home against Meridian, dropping its last Jack Pine Conference game of the season 45-34.

The Lady Mustangs led 10-7 after the first quarter but Harrison was still close at the half, trailing just 25-23. Meridian began to pull away in the third though, taking a 37-28 lead into the final stanza.

Aja Heber led the Hornets with 12 points, Jessica Scherrer had eight, Erika Cullen netted six and Lexi LaChappa had four.
The Hornets finish the season 5-16 overall and 2-12 in league play.

“On a positive side, we ended up with five wins,” Anderson said. “That doesn’t sound great but it’s a great improvement over last year’s no win season. All five of our starters and some of our bench will be back next year too. We should, if we put in the hard work be considerably better next year. At least that’s the plan.”
