A Lansing man is in jail on a $750,000 bond after he fired a gun during a police pursuit through Isabella and Clare Counties last Sunday morning.

Responding to a “Be On The Lookout” alert (BOL), Mt. Pleasant attempted to stop Mark Steven Adkins  on Pickard Road near US 127 in Mt. Pleasant for not having a license when he reportedly fled and a police chase began.

“During the pursuit,” the press release said, “Adkins, 44, allegedly fired a handgun out of the vehicle.”
The pursuit continued on northbound US 127 into Clare County north of the City of Clare until Clare County Sheriff’s Department Deputies deployed spike strips, stopped the suspect’s vehicle and took Adkins into custody.

Adkins was first taken to McLaren hospital by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department, then lodged in the Isabella County Jail.

At his arraignment in Isabella County Court Monday, Adkins was charged with Flee and Elude 4th Degree, Assault With Intent to Murder, Carrying Concealed, Resisting and Obstructing, Felony Firearm, Operating While Intoxicated – Second Offense and Operating with High Blood Alcohol Content (High BAC).

His bond was set at $750,000 cash surety and he remains lodged at the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.

Mt. Pleasant officers were assisted by Isabella County Sheriff’s Deputies, Chippewa Tribal Police, Clare City Police and Clare County Sheriff’s Deputies.
