M. Duane MacDonald, age 88, of Clare, passed away on Saturday, May 26, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. He was born the son of Archibald and Grace (Holmstrom) MacDonald on the family farm in North Bradley, Mi. on October 3, 1923. He graduated from Coleman High School in the Class of 1941, and married Dorothy (Carey) on June 11, 1943 in Lincoln, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2004. Duane had served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He had managed Family General Store in Loomis, Mi., worked 22 years for Clare Mfg. and it’s later incarnations-Holley Carburetor, Colt Industries/Chandler Evans, Farmed, and retired from CMU Computer Services after 10 years.
Duane is survived by his children, Donald (Sally Barnes) MacDonald of Mt. Pleasant, Michael (Jodi) MacDonald of Farwell, his sister-in-law, Lucille McDonald of Midland, grandchildren, Tony (Shelli) Schroeder, Kristi (Zachary) Griffith, Kati (Brian) Wysong, Christopher MacDonald, Elizabeth MacDonald, Blaine MacDonald, Michael MacDonald, Joelle (Chad) Snyder, and Ryan (Laura) MacDonald, and great grandchildren, Kaleb and Isabel Schroeder, Morgan Griffith, Madalyn Wysong, Sydney and Jackson Snyder. He was also preceded in death by his daughters, Carol Sue and Betty Lou MacDonald, Carla Kay Schroeder, son-in-law Theodore Schroeder, brothers Archie and Alger, and sisters, Marie Nettleton-Dancer, and Pauline “Peg” Johnston.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, at 11 AM from the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with elder Daniel J. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. Memorials may be made to MidMichigan Home Care- Hospice or to Woodland Hospice.
