Man drowns in Lake George

On 07/07/12 the Clare County Central Dispatch received multiple 911 calls regarding a male subject who had reportedly gone missing under water in the middle of Lake George in Lincoln Township

Responding Emergency Crew members along with the help of several civilian bystanders aided in the search for the missing male. With the help of the civilian bystanders, the male was located under approximately 15 feet of water before bringing him to shore.

CPR was immediately started by the bystanders and responding Emergency Crews on scene. Once on shore the male was transported by MMR Ambulance Service to Clare Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

During the investigation, it was learned by Clare County Deputies that 25 year old Robert Howe of Grayling was being pulled behind a 2009 Crest Pontoon boat on a tube with another family member. It was learned that neither of the tubers were wearing life vests and that both had fallen off the tube. Robert was pulled from the water and transported to Clare Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The other tuber was unharmed.

The accident is still under investigation by the Clare County SHeriff’s Office. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
