Mid Michigan Community Action is now helping uninsured residents to understand the Affordable Care Act and enroll in the Health Insurance Marketplace. Leading this charge will be a new federally trained and certified Healthcare Navigator.
Jennifer Raymond, Regional Lead Certified Navigator, will assist uninsured people in Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Isabella, Midland and Saginaw counties. As a Navigator, Raymond provides free and confidential assistance with the Marketplace application and enrollment process.
All uninsured American citizens must obtain health insurance, effective January 1. Mid Michigan is helping make sure local residents not only get covered, but also receive the appropriate subsidies and find the best plan for their families.
“The online application is going a lot more smoothly since healthcare.gov was re-launched,” Raymond said. “Every day we’re helping more people get the coverage they need.”
In addition to helping people with enrollment issues, Raymond will also be scheduling public presentations and Q&A sessions throughout the area, helping residents understand the Affordable Care Act.
For new insurance plans to be effective by January 01, 2014, applicants must select and enroll in a plan by December 23, 2013. Enrollment will remain open through March 2014 and applicants enrolling before the end of March will not have to pay a penalty. The next enrollment period is currently scheduled to begin in November, 2014.
Applications can be completed on the newly revised online Health Insurance Marketplace at healthcare.gov, by filling out a paper form, or by contacting the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596. Jennifer Raymond can be reached at 1-877-212-7561 on Monday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m.- noon to answer questions and schedule application assistance.
Navigators do not receive any reimbursement from insurance companies and must provide consumers with complete, unbiased information. Raymond holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Care Systems Administration from Ferris State University.
