Several Mid Michigan College student-veterans were recently awarded scholarships from the Central Michigan Veteran’s Fund (CMVF). The CMVF focuses on providing support and scholarships to veterans and their dependents while raising awareness of issues faced by service men and women as they return from active duty.

The CMVF awarded $13,550 in scholarships to seventeen student-veterans at a reception that took place on Mid Michigan College’s Mt. Pleasant Campus in December. Twelve of the recipients hailed from Mid Michigan College and five from Central Michigan University. The scholarship is open to students at Alma College, Central Michigan University, and Mid Michigan College.

Mid Michigan College recipients were Zackrey Bailey (Mt. Pleasant), Bethany Curtis (Farwell), Dalton Danielak (Harrison), Devin Daniels (Harrison), Genevieve Daniels (Mt. Pleasant), Leo Hall (Mt. Pleasant), Robert Hornyak (Mt. Pleasant), Emma Keeley (Beaverton), Zachary Leonard (Mt. Pleasant), Austin Rios (Mt. Pleasant), Brian Smith (Mt. Pleasant), and Jared Zieris (Boyne Falls).

Since the CMVF was formed, the organization has awarded over one hundred scholarships totaling over $78,000. CMVF scholarship funds are raised at their annual golf outing, which is held at Maple Creek Golf Course in Shepherd. In exchange for event volunteers, annual awards of $750 are also given to the Student Veterans of America Chapters (SVA) at both Central Michigan University and Mid Michigan College.

“I’m proud of our student-veterans here at Mid, and these scholarships are proof that others also recognize their skills, dedication, and perseverance,” shared Chris Stanton, Coordinator of Apprenticeships & Veterans Affairs and SVA Chapter Advisor at Mid Michigan College.
