Stacey and Devin DeGeer of Lake, are more than mother and son they are 4-H champions with the same cat. Back around the fall of 2005 then Stacey Landon found a stray cat while out running during her Farwell High School gym class. After convincing her instructor Miss Clause to let her take the little guy back to school she brought him home.

Named Autumn the lovable cat lived with the family and took part in the Clare County Fair 4-H Cat Show where it won the 2006 and 2007 Reserve Champion Cat award.

Fast forward to 2015, Autumn is still alive and now living with Stacey, her husband Joey, son Devin and daughter Mariah in Lake. Like his mom seven year old Devin is active in 4-H and a member of the Busy Bunny Raisers 4-H Club, the same club his mom and Uncle Seth Landon were a part of growing up. It had been a while since the old Cat has been shown but Devin – the new owner was ready to show him at this year’s fair.

Much to his surprise Autumn was named 2015 Grand Champion Cat at the Clare County Fair. Devin had not only beat his mom’s Reserve Championship he won it with the very same cat. A rare event in fair history. Devin also took Reserve Champion Showmanship with Autumn, this allowed him to advance to the “Small Animal Overall Showmanship” contest. While he didn’t win the title he hung in there right to the end with older 4-Her’s showing various animals.

In 2007 his mom won Grand Champion “Cavy” and advanced to the “Small Animal Overall Showmanship” contest . If you look up at the photos above the west wall of the small animal barn featuring past “Overall Small Animal Showmanship’ participants you’ll see pictures of both Stacey – 2007 and Devin – 2015 along with other top small animal showmanship winners over the years.

In addition to Grand Champion Cat, Devin claimed “Reserve Champion Cat” Showman. Pre – Junior Rabbit Showman, Novice Goat Showman and Pre – Junior Dog showmanship. Not a bad year for the second year 4-H’er.

Devin is the grandson of Sherry and Steve Landon of Farwell.
