Longtime Clare County businessman Tommie Bauer of Farwell, Mich., who passed away last December will be honored Friday night, August 5th at Mt. Pleasant Speedway in the Tommie Bauer Memorial Race – UMP Modified Show complete with a 40 Lap A Main.  The event offers the richest purse ($19,000 plus) in track history.

To area residents Tommie Bauer is perhaps best known for his career in oval track endurance snowmobile racing as both a driver and team owner who loved racing Arctic Cat. Few may know that long before the birth of snowmobile racing Tommie was big into auto racing.

Back in the 1950’s while attending Clare High School Bauer spent every moment he could in the schools auto shop both learning and sometimes actually working on his racecar. Like many young men from that era Bauer had two passions, fast cars and women.

Beginning his career at the old Joe’s Speedway in Lake, Mich., in the 1950’s he would go on to have a successful career racing on tracks throughout the region. His love for auto racing didn’t fade when he retired from behind the wheel, son Chad and later grandson Cody continued the Bauer family tradition. Today Chad and Cody Bauer are two of the areas best wheeled warriors. While Chad has since retired from snowmobile racing Cody is fast becoming one of the sports raising stars on the enduro circuit, running Polaris under Tommie Bauer Racing, #19.

In recognition of Tommie’s #19 all payout amounts will end in the number 19.
Come on out to Mt. Pleasant Speedway Friday August 5, see some great racing and join racers and race fans in celebrating the life of Tommie Bauer. Racing starts at 7:45 p.m.
