The surgical suite at MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare has been expanded to include a new cardiac catheterization laboratory that will open on April 8. Five cardiologists now care for patients with heart diagnoses in Clare.
They are Invasive Cardiologist Steven Gellman, M.D.; and Interventional Cardiologists Andy Boguszewski, M.D., Rodney Diehl, D.O., Michael Lauer, M.D. , and William Felten, M.D. Nurse Practitioner Laura Jaime, M.S.N., F.N.P.-B.C., is also a member of MidMichigan’s heart and vascular team in Clare.
Cardiac catheterizations performed at the Medical Center will help cardiologists diagnose severity of blockages in the heart’s blood vessels and identify the best methods of treatment. Peripheral vascular procedures are performed to determine the severity of vessel blockages in other areas of the body such as the abdomen, neck (carotid artery), arms and legs. Diagnosing peripheral vascular blockages and treating the blockage will often be done during the same procedure.
The expansion at the Medical Center includes a 52 feet by 13 feet sterile processing area located west of the surgical wing. The cardiac cath lab within the surgical suites includes new technology for real time digital imaging that can then be stored for future reference by physicians associated with each patient’s care. The information will also be available throughout MidMichigan Health in a picture archiving system for future physician reference. The digital imaging system is a Siemens Artis Zee system with flexible (movable) architecture for use in angiography and fluoroscopy examinations. It provides excellent visualization for the cardiologist and 3-D applications for speed and precision.
Other renovations include the creation of two new waiting room areas in the main part of the Medical Center and reconfiguration of the main lobby registration area for enhanced patient privacy and more efficient patient movement through registration.

Tours of the cardiac cath lab will be given during an open house on Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. The tour will open with a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m.
