During fall 2018, Girl Scout Troop 50831 worked to achieve their Bronze Award (the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn). The girls of Troop 50831, chose a project that they could do together for their community. They had a lot of ideas, but since they all enjoy reading; they decided to build a lending library for kids to enjoy at a park. They had several park areas that they thought the lending library would be a great fit, but then decided on Imagination Gateway Park. This project was so successful, that they decided that they would like to add another one within the City of Clare.

The location they picked is the Clare Historic Union Depot and the proposed project was presented to the Clare Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, the Depot Governing Committee, and the Clare County Arts Council. The troop had drawn some design ideas and it was decided by all boards that the coal car design would be the best fit. This library will have books for all ages.

Linda Guiliani and Carol Santini of the Clare County Arts Council graciously provided the funding for the project. On October 1, 2019 Troop 50831 presented the Clare County Arts Council with the lending library. They are excited to see the Clare community reading and lending books for years to come.
