Angela Ann Lapham, age 60, of Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Angela was born in Key West, Florida on March 19, 1953 to Paul and Elva Lea Lapham, the first of six children. Angela grew up in Clare attending St. Cecilia and graduating from Clare High School in 1971. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation and Psychology from Central Michigan University in 1975 where she was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi sorority. In 1993 she received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Florida. She was licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in Florida and North Carolina.
After graduating from Central Michigan University Angela directed the Child Development Center at Mid-Michigan Community College and spent summers directing youth programs in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. While in Virginia, she was Director for the Fairfax County After School Care Program. In 1988 she moved to Florida to work with chronic mental health patients in the Geriatric Residential Treatment System. In 1999 Angela moved to North Carolina to work with Hospice as a social worker and grief counselor and with the Veteran’s Administration working as a mental health counselor for veterans and their families. She then returned to her home state of Florida where she worked for the Healthier Florida State Program.
Angela was preceded in death by her grandparents Alger and Ruth (Wernette) Lapham, Gordon and Elizabeth (Wildeman) McIntosh, and her mother Elva Lea (McIntosh) Lapham. She is survived by her father Paul B. Lapham; her siblings Tim (significant other Jackie) Lapham, Sue Lapham, Mary (Mike) Hales, Beth (Randy) Elinski, and Lisa (Steve) Thorburn; her nieces and nephews Jason (Jeanette) Lapham, Heather Brookshire, Adam (Melody) Hales, Brian (Morgan) Hales, Jordan Hales, Trevor, Meagan, and Adriane Elinski; her great nieces and nephews Jacob, James, Jaelee, and Jaxon Lapham, and Ryann and Brianna Hales. Angela is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles and their families.
Friends may meet with the family on Monday, May 6th, at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service to be held at 8 p.m. Funeral services for Angela will be held on Tuesday, May 7th, 1 p.m., at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church with Father Bill Rutkowski officiating. Burial will be in the St. Cecilia Catholic Cemetery.
