Douglas A. Bell

5-19-17 OBIT BellDouglas A. Bell, age 61, of Clare, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 15, at MidMichigan Medical Center in Clare.  He was born the son of Hugh and Mary Therese (Dobos) Bell on August 21, 1955 in Clawson, Michigan.  He married Debra (Dent) on August 24, 1991 and she survives him.  Doug had a Masters degree in Biology from CMU but had worked in government planning as the Director of Planning for Saginaw County and had served briefly as the City Manager for the City of Clare.  He lived nearly all of his life in Clare and still resided in his boyhood home.  He was an “Extreme Detroit Tiger’s fan”.  Doug loved spending time with his grandchildren and was an animal lover, especially his dogs.  His favorite quote was, “I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don’t let anybody tell you different!”

Doug is survived by his wife, Debra, his daughters, Mary Schmidt of Lansing, and Ashleigh Bell of  Mt. Pleasant, and his grandchildren Sullivan and Rowan.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 3 PM at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Pastor John Kasper officiating.
Friends may meet with his family at the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family for a future memorial consideration.
