Eileen Helen (Rank) Hampton passed away at the age of 96 at Horizon Senior Living in Clare on May 31, 2018, where she has resided since 2010.6-8-18 OBIT Hampton

Eileen was a lifetime resident of the Clare area and a longstanding member of the First Baptist Church of Clare, and was active during her lifetime at the Colonville Church of God and Trinity Baptist Church in Farwell.  She completely devoted herself to God, her family, faithful attendance and activities of church with daily prayer.  She was known as a prayer warrior and took the opportunity to witness about Jesus Christ and his Saving Grace to anyone who would listen.  In later years she talked often about Heaven and the joys of eternal life with her Savior.

Eileen Helen Rank was the second of five children born to John Herman and Lucy (Radloff) Rank on June 20, 1921.  She lived and worked on the family farm in Sheridan Township, Clare County, and completed her formal schooling at the Eagle Country School.  Her first paying job was at the Clare City Bakery which is now known as Cops and Donuts.

She married Emerson Raymond Hampton of rural Clare on June 20, 1941, and they resided in Clare for a time and moved to Rosebush in the mid-1940’s.  They owned an automobile repair shop and Kaiser Fraser New Car Dealership along with her sister Violet and brother-in-law Lynn Archbold.  In 1950 she and her husband moved to the farm located on Colonville Road, Grant Township where she resided until moving to the Horizon senior Living Facility in Clare.  During the late 1960’s and through the 1970’s, Eileen and Emerson Hampton owned and operated the Gamble Store, later converted to the Ace Hardware and the Honda Motorcycle Dealership in Clare until their retirement at the end of 1979.

Three sons were born to their marriage, Stuart Lee, Mark Edward, and Melvin Gene.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Sgt. Melvin Hampton of the Michigan State Police in 1982, her husband, Emerson R. Hampton in 1992, sister, Alma Shull in 2007, sister, Elsie Hill Ott in 2010, sister, Violet Archbold Stamman in 2014, and brother, Larry Rank in 2015.

Surviving are, her eldest son, Det. First Lt. Stuart Hampton (ret.) Michigan State Police, now living in Deming, N.M., Dr. Mark Hampton (ret) living in Ocala, Fl., eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Clare with a luncheon immediately following.  Interment will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare, next to her husband.  Memorials in lieu of flowers, if desired, may be made to any one of the three churches in which she had been active, in memory of Eileen Hampton.  Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.   On-line guestbook at www.stephenson-wyman.com
