James “Junior” Wixson

James “Junior” Wixson Junior suffered a stroke and passed away February 26, 2019 while visiting family in Florida.  His passing was sudden and a shock to all his family and friends.

Junior was born March 13, 1934 in Mt Pleasant, Michigan to Jim and Beulah Border Wixson. He was the fourth of twelve children.

Junior married Phyllis Metzler, of Coldwater Michigan, August 8, 1960. In November 1967 they moved their family from Coldwater to Farwell, where Junior 3-15-19 OBIT Wixsonspent most of his childhood.

They built a home on Gilmore road and lived there until permanently relocating to Alaska in 1991 to be near their daughters and families. Junior and Phyllis lived in Alaska for 25 years, having many adventures.

When Phyllis passed away in 2014 it was her wish that Junior return to Farwell to be with his large Michigan family.

In 2017 at the age of 83, Junior started his newest adventure by selling their home of 25 years in Palmer, Alaska and moving back to Farwell.

For the last couple of years Junior was able to enjoy being around his large loving family, getting reacquainted with old friends, and make new ones.

Junior retired out of the Iron Workers union, Local 340. He worked on many project across Michigan, talking mostly about the Midland Nuclear Plant and Hydro Power Plant on Lake Michigan. As a teenager he got his start in the oilfield. In Alaska he got an opportunity go to the most northern part of Alaska, and work by the Arctic Ocean doing seasonal unloading of barges.

Junior loved being with family and friends, helping others, working on projects in his garage, listining to old time country music, playing euchre, riding his 4 wheeler, telling stories, and teasing the youngsters. In his younger days he loved hunting and exploring the swamps in Michigan.

Survived by children Lea Ann (Rob) McKenzie, Carol (Jim) Ward,  Don Cook, Hugh (Patricia) Foster . Grandchildren Robin (James) Terry, Amanda Ace, Sara Post, Kelly (James) Iser, Holly (Todd) Cook, Christopher (Stephanie) Foster, and Tricia (Mike)Foster. Great grandchildren Lennox Terry, James France, Christian Ward, and Olivia Post.

He is survived by siblings Donald Wixson and Ruthann Cross.

Preceeded in death by siblings Frank Wixson, John Wixson, Larry Wixson, Bob Arthur Wixson, Clarence ”Shorty” Wixson, Arvella Hanner, Georgine Coppens, Bonnie Kolhof, and Linda.

A service will be held over the summer. The date to be announced.
