Leland James Bush

1-3-14  OBIT Leeland BushLeland James Bush, husband, father, grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Farwell and spent Christmas in heaven.

Leland was born  in Greenfield, Iowa and moved at age 7 to Swartz Creek, Michigan.  A graduate of Swartz Creek High School, Leland served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He was stationed in Germany and worked as a radio repairman.

Lee retired from General Motors where he worked many hours at the Flint Metal Fab plant.  He is described as a “man’s man” who enjoyed hunting, fishing, building, and tinkering.  He built the family’s home from the ground up.

Lee married Geraldine Rose (Danks) on June 27, 1959.  Following retirement, the couple lived up north in Lake Station and enjoyed winters in  Zephyrhills, Florida and visits to Branson, Missouri.  They were members of the Church of the Nazarene in Clare, Michigan.

He is survived by, Gerry, his wife of 54 years, and three children:  Dennis (Dana) Swantek, Brenda White, and Dan (Patti) Bush.  He is also survived by five grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Iola Bush and Edith Elvira Cedar, three brothers, two sisters, and by his son, David (Chris) Swantek.

A springtime celebration of life is being planned with internment later at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests tribute donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, via alz.org,  in honor of Lee’s wife Gerry.
