Age 95

Passed away at the Pioneer Golden Estates on November 2nd 2019. Family members were with him to say goodbye.

Lloyd was the son of his predeceased parents, Lloyd (Sr.) and Meta (Dumsch) Conley, born March 8, 1924 in Rogers City. Lloyd was a loving supporting husband and his children and grandchildren feel so blessed to have had such a wonderful father and grandfather in their lives.

On April 7, 1951 Lloyd married Helen Holzchu at St. Francis Church in Petoskey. He served as a bandsman in the United States Army Air Force (44oth AAF Band) at the Avon Park Bombing Range in Florida during WWII, from 1943 to 1946.

With degrees from CMU and MSR+U Lloyd taught instrumental music at Harbor Springs and Greenville before completing his 29-year teaching career in Clare. He retired in 1979.

Music was his life. He played (trombone) in several concert bands (HS, community, college, and military) and played professionally in any dance bands, including his own band at CMU in the late 40’s. He was a free-lance dance band arranger in the 40’s and 50’s before the onset of his career as a published writer of educational music in 1958. His publications totaled over 600. He became a member of ASCAP in 1971 and received 14 awards from that organization. He also tuned pianos on the side for 25 years.

Predeceasing him are his wife Helen 2003 and his son Patrick of Hampton, Virgina. Surviving his two sons: Thomas of Ocala, Florida, and David (Linda) of Farwell. There are three grandchildren: Clayton (David), Christopher and Rachel (Patrick) and several nephews and nieces. He was a dear brother of Kathleen Carr, Donald (deceased), Delmar (deceased), Lois Furtaw, Ruth Lamb (deceased) and James (Karren).

Visitation details: There will be a gathering and eulogy April 1 2020 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Clare.

Funeral details: There will be a gathering and eulogy at Beck Funeral Home in Rogers City April 2 2020 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM.

You can make donations to Hospice in memory of Helen.

Friday April 3 2020 at 10:00AM there will be a private funeral mass at St. Ignatiius cafeteria. There will be no graveside service.
