Maurice ‘Maury’ Claus, 84, of Eight Point Lake, Lake, MI, died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Mt. Pleasant Medical Care Facility. Maury was born on December 16, 1928, in Detroit, MI. He attended Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant, MI. After high school graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in Guam with the Fifth Field Marines. After his discharge in 1950, he attended Michigan State College, graduating with a degree in Building Construction.
He worked at Chrysler in Utica, MI and Beverly Hills, CA, until he became the architectural designer for the Los Angeles City Schools. Later, he began his own firm, Contemporary Design and Drafting in Anaheim, CA. He continued to run this firm after returning to Mt. Pleasant, MI until he joined General Motor’s Central Foundry in Saginaw as a project engineer in architecture.
Maury continued his interest in architecture and designed his cottage on Eight Point Lake in which he lived until this winter.
Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Medard and Martha.Claus, and his long-time, special friend, Vicki Lynn Mattson.
Maury is survived by his brother, Michael (Jean) Claus, his nieces, Jennifer Claus (Sean Moore), Mickey Claus-Egger (Ken Egger), grandnieces and nephew Madeline and Jonathan Moore and Mackenzie and Jordyn Egger, and cousins both in the United States and Belgium.
He will be missed by his friends at the Lake Rod and Gun Club, the Eagles and Moose Clubs and the hunt camp in Lake, MI.
