Morris L. Kapplinger, age 92, of Farwell, peacefully passed away in the home of his birth on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, surrounded by family. Morris was born the son of William C. and Charlotte E. (Northern) Kapplinger on November 3, 1921. He was a graduate of Clare High School and was active in football, boxing, and baseball. Morris was inducted into the Army of the United States on December 15, 1942. He served overseas in Europe and stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was honorably discharged from military service on December 28, 1945. He was united in marriage to Rose F. Athey on July 6, 1946. After service in the military, Morris was employed by Joslin Plumbing, Holley Carburetor, and Evart Products. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Clare Church of the Nazarene.
Morris is survived by his children Jarvis (Donna) Kapplinger, Pamela Kapplinger; grandchildren Jeff (Nina) McQuiston, Shannon (Alissa) McQuiston, Valorie Owens, Kayla Kapplinger, Tyler Owens; five great grandchildren, and his brother Kenneth Kapplinger. He was proceeded in death by his wife Rose, son Kevin, daughter Sandra, siblings Jarvis, Frances, Ethel, and Charles.
Services and visitation will be held at the Clare Church of the Nazarene. Visitation is 5-8pm Thursday and 10am Friday. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am with Pastor Jim Young officiating. Burial will be at Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare.
