NJ Arnold Davis – age 87 of Farwell, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer, at his home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. A funeral service is planned for Monday, April 22, 2013, at 11AM at the Campbell-Stocking Family Funeral Home in Farwell. Elder Richard Hunt will officiate with burial in Surrey Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may visit on Sunday from 3-8PM and again on Monday from 9AM until the time of service. N.J. was born on October 28, 1925, in Vassar, the son of Roy and Ida Mae (Graves) Davis. He proudly served our country with the United States Army. Following his service with the Army he worked as a machinist for Pontiac Motors where he retired in 1977.
He loved to be active and involved and gave of his time and talents in so many ways. He drove school bus for 10 years, served for many years on the Farwell Labor Day Committee, was a member of Farwell VFW Post#3039, and a member of Farwell Church of Christ.
He loved to fish, hunt, read, and do jigsaw puzzles. He had puzzle buddies who he traded puzzles with, and could usually be seen at the Farwell Senior Center on Bingo night.
He was a wonderful friend to many and will be sadly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory his eleven children; Ray Davis and wife Cindy of Eaton Rapids, Neil Davis and wife Shelley of Shepherd, Pam Whiskeyman and husband Paul of PA, JoEllen Persyn and husband Bob of Farwell, Cathy Davis of Farwell, Vicki Goudie and husband Gary of Lake, Bob Davis and wife Erika of GA, Todd Davis and wife Denise of CA, Charles Davis and Brenda Merren of Rosebush, Kim Higgins and husband Joe of Farwell, Tim Davis and wife Sari of Traverse City, forty-three grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and sister Mary Ellen Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Donna, a daughter Tammy, a son Roger, a brother Ronald, and two sisters, Edith Harmon and Frances Fick.
