Herb was born the son of Olevin and Cora (Fee) Breen on November 19, 1919 in Clare. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Malcomnson on March 5, 1942 in San Francisco.
Herb had served his county in the U.S. Navy for six years during WWII; following his service during WWII he spent another 31 years in the Naval Reserves.
He had worked for 26 years as the Assistant Postmaster at the Clare Post Office. The day following his retirement at the Post Office he went to work at the Benchley Brothers Car Dealership as a salesman. Herb had served as a Cub Scout District Manager and had belonged to a Men’s Golf League.
He was a proud participant every year in the Memorial Day Parade in Clare; proudly wearing his Navy uniform. Herb was a master woodworking craftsman and carpenter; his family cherishes the items he crafted for them. He enjoyed Deer Hunting and Fishing in Canada.
Herb is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Evelyn; his sons Phillip (Candice) of Fruitport and Stanley “Skip” (Midge) of Clare; a brother-in-law Leon (Elaine) Malcomnson of Burton; two sister-in-laws Marion (Al) Pittman and Rosie Malcomnson both of Harrison; 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. Herb was predeceased by two sisters Lillian Walker and Marguerite Myrand.
Services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 1 P.M. at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Elder Andrew Buursma officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Harrison. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
