Richard “Dick” VanDeusen

9-6-13 Obit VanDeusen002Richard “Dick” VanDeusen- age 76 passed away on Friday, August 30, 2013 at his residence. A funeral service for Dick is planned for Wednesday, Sept 4, 2013 at 12:00PM, at the Campbell-Stocking Family Funeral Home in Farwell. Burial will take place in the Surrey Twp. Cemetery, Pastor Jim Young will officiate. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday, Sept 3, from 5:30-9PM.

Dick was born on March 14, 1937, the son of Lewis and Dorothy (Good) VanDeusen in Lansing MI. Coming from Dewitt, MI he moved to the Farwell area in 1977. He was co-owner and operator of DJ’s Lounge in Farwell for over 20 years. He was also co-owner of The Surrey House in Harrison for eight years. Dick was instrumental in the development of the Farwell Sports Complex, and was an active member of several organizations which included the Clare-Farwell Moose Lodge, Farwell American Legion Post, Lake Eagles, and was a charter member of Lake Eagles Recreation. Dick loved attending and pit crewing dirt track racing, watching NASCAR, and was an avid Tigers Fan. He leaves to cherish many fond memories his beloved wife of 49 years, Joyce, four sons; Dale Calder and wife Katheryn of St. John, Don Calder and wife Linda of Wales, FL, Ron VanDeusen and wife Michelle of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jerry VanDeusen of Clare, four daughters; Sharon Bovan of Farwell, Theresa Shepard and husband Rodney of E. Lansing, Liane Hopaluk and husband Clint of Lowell, Kelli Bridgett and husband Cleland of Lake, seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, father Lewis VanDeusen of Ovid, four brothers; Calvin VanDeusen and wife Doris of St. John, Jack VanDeusen and wife Georgene of Grand Rapids, Jerry VanDeusen and Maryann of Elsie, Bill VanDeusen and wife Clara of Fowler, two sisters; Linda Bona and husband John of Webster, NY, Patricia Leland and husband Bert of Owosso, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, and two brothers, Larry and Doug VanDeusen. Monetary considerations may be made to the American Cancer or the American Heart Associations.
