Robert J. Dunn Sr.

Robert J. Dunn, Sr., age 81 of Clare, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 26, 2017.  On December 3, 1935, Robert was born the son of Ira C. and 12-1-17 OBIT DunnBlanche V. (Holmes) Dunn in Port. Huron, MI.  He was united in marriage to Joyce Ward on September 24, 1955, and the couple enjoyed 62 years of marriage.  During his working years, Robert served as a facility manager for what is now Textron Industries, but his real passions were that of the outdoors and combustion motors.  He loved spending time fishing the big lakes for Salmon and shooting pistols and trap competitively, being a proud member of both the Rod & Gun Club and the NRA.  However, Robert could usually be found building or restoring combustion motors.  In his day, he held the qualifying record at the Mt. Pleasant Speedway.  Robert will be remembered as a strong, self sufficient, hard working man with a gift of mechanical genius.

Robert  is survived by his children James (Deonna) Dunn of Clare, Robert  (Bobbie) Dunn Jr. of Kokomo, IN., Brenda Dunn of Chicago, IL., Steven (Cindy) Dunn of Ashville, N.C., Laurie Thomas of Bay City, and David (Amanda) Dunn of Winston-Salem, N.C., 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include his sister Jeanne (Jim Allen) Dunn of Alden, MI., his nephew Jeff (Sheri) Brown of Clare, and special friends of the family Ted (Deb) Eberhart of Clare.  Robert was preceded in death by his parent Ira and Blanche Dunn and his sisters Jackie Tripp and RuthAnn Knapp.

In keeping with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place in the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare.  Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home and on-line condolences may be left on the Dunn family page at
