Rollin Vernell Carey, age 85, lifelong resident of Clare, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Rollin was born the son of LaDoyt and Beulah (Alwood) Carey on May 27, 1928 in Vernon Township, Isabella County, Michigan. He was united in marriage to Ruth L. Randle on August 28, 1948 at the Clare Church of God. Rollin had worked at Holly Carburetor in Clare first as a courier and lastly in the Tool Crib for 24+ years. He had also owned and operated Carey Roofing from 1960 to 2003. Rollin had been a Union Steward at Holly Carburetor and a member of the Sheridan Township Board of Review.
At the Clare Church of God he had been the Superintendent as well as Head Usher and he and Ruth had served as youth leaders. In his free time Rollin enjoyed fishing including ice fishing, camping, hunting, gardening and bird watching. He enjoyed listening to music, talking politics and socializing; many would say he never met a stranger.
Rollin is survived by his wife Ruth; children Janet “Jan” Pauquette of Barryton, Rick “Rock” (Vickie) of Clare, Aaron (Laura) of Levering and Doug (Sherrie) of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Rollin was predeceased by an infant brother John D. and his parents.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 10, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. with Rollin’s nephew Pastor Duane Koontz officiating with visitation beginning at 12 noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
