Steven Michael Smoltz passed away from a sudden illness at Bay City Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 57.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Dorothea Smoltz of Royal Oak, Mich.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Lesley of 36 years. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Rachel (Brennan) Sang, and Renee Smoltz; his grandchildren, Henry and Hazel Sang; and his sisters, Cheryl (Mike) Kalenik, Karen (Mike) Donnellon, Antoinette (Walt) Ward and Susan (Terry) Acton. His pets, Buddy and Buster, were also part of his family and will miss him dearly.
Steven was born in Higland Park, Mich. on June 9, 1955 and attended Shrine Catholic High School. He worked for over 40 years as an auto technician in the metro Detroit area.
Steven found great joy in his grandson, Henry and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his granddaughter, Hazel who was born a few days after his passing. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and lover of wildlife who shared his passion for the outdoors with his family. In his retirement he was drawn to the kitchen where he developed new found skills as a baker, cook and canner.
Steven was a strong man with a powerful personality and will always be remembered as a husband, father, brother and friend with a heart of gold.
A celebration of Steven’s life will be held at his home on Saturday May 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Clare, Mich.
