One dies in two-car collision

On Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 at 12:43 p.m. the Clare County Central Dispatch received multiple 911 calls of a two vehicle accident on US-10 near West Ludington Drive in Surrey Township. Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff Department arrived on scene and determined a 42 year old female from Lake was driving a silver Chevrolet Cavalier East bound on US-10. This driver crossed the center line and struck a Grey Chevrolet HHR head on.

The HHR was driven by Kathryn Skipworth of Farwell and her father 81 year old Harold Short of Farwell was in the passenger seat. Harold Short was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathryn Skipworth was taken to Clare Hospital and later transferred to Midland Hospital for serious injuries. The 42 year old female from Lake was taken to Clare ER where she was treated for possible injuries.
Drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash along with poor weather conditions. Blood results are pending and the accident is still under investigation. The Clare County Sheriff Department was assisted by Surrey Township Fire and Rescue.
