The Clare boys basketball team opened the week with a resounding home win Monday night, as it topped Coleman 82-27, in non-conference play.

“We played a good team game,” head coach Rob Wise said. “We shared the ball and were efficient on the offensive side. We were also better with our rotations and rebounding.”

The Pioneers made sure of the win with a strong first two quarters, leading 23-5 after the first and 53-17 at the half. After three, Clare pushed its lead to 69-21 and had a 13-6 edge in the fourth frame as well.
Camden Dice led the way with 22 points, having a particular hot night from behind the arc, making six threes. Travis Vida added 18 points, four steals and three steals for a well-rounded game and Tcuker Roe and Tyler Rodenbo had five assists each.

On Friday Clare played at Meridian for a Jack Pine Conference game, falling 84-54.
The Mustangs led 24-16 after the first quarter and took control of the game in the second and led 50-24 at the half. Meridian kept things going in the third and took a 72-39 lead entering the fourth, where Clare had a 19-12 edge.

“Meridian made eight three pointers in the first half,” Wise said. “We were slow to rotate and they moved the ball really well.”

Dice finished with 20 points on the night, Travis Vida had 11 points and five assists and Max Swan had nine points.

Clare (5-5 overall, 3-4 JPC) hosts Houghton Lake tonight (Friday), is at Gladwin on Wednesday and hosts league leading Beaverton next Friday.

“We need to be better on the defensive end to succeed against some of the better teams left on our schedule,” Wise said.
