A domestic dispute in the early morning hours last Saturday led to gunfire and the death of a Gladwin County mother.

District Three Michigan State Police Troopers were called to the Hay Township home at approximately 4:07 a.m. when neighbors called 911.

According to a release from Public Information Officer Lt. David Kaiser, “three children were in the home and heard their mother and father arguing and then gunshots.”

The children fled to a neighbor’s home and police were called.

When troopers arrived, the suspect, 39-year-old Jeremy Herren, refused to come out. The State Police Emergency Support team was called to the scene.

After a standoff of over five hours, the man came out and surrendered around 9:30 a.m.

Troopers securing the home located 37-year-old Christina Kay Herren’s body inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound.

Herren was arrested, charged with homicide, and lodged at the Gladwin County Jail.

He was arraigned in 80th District Court on Monday by Magistrate Post and charged with homicide-open murder and felony firearm. No bond was set.
