A search and request for help in identifying a woman who took a wallet/purse left at Buccilli’s Pizza December 21st has ended.

Clare Police Chief Brian Gregory said the woman, whose picture had been posted on Facebook, came to the Police Department around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday with the purse.

“Everything was still in the purse,” Gregory said. “The woman said the purse/wallet was identical to her own and she discovered it wasn’t hers when she opened it at a gas station in Sault Ste Marie to pay and saw a driver’s license that wasn’t hers.

The woman, who is from California, had been visiting family members in the Clare area and was staying at the Lone Pine Motel at the time. The missing purse, which belonged to Jordyn Bradley, was reported missing January 1st.

Bradley told officers she left her purse sitting on a bench just inside the door at Buccilli’s and came back January 1st to see if someone had turned it in. She said she was told the purse had been given to another woman by accident. She said she believed she left her purse on the bench around 9 p.m. December 21st.

An employee of Buccilli’s, Alonna McDowell, told the responding officer that she saw the wallet on the bench and believed it belonged to a woman getting ready to leave and asked if it was hers. The woman said it was and left the restaurant with the purse according to a video of the incident.

A picture of the woman was circulated to hotels in the city, but she was not identified. The PD then posted it on Facebook asking for help in identifying the woman.

When the woman returned the purse/wallet at the Police Department Tuesday with the contents intact, she said she had not seen the Facebook post or realized that she had someone else’s purse until she opened it at the gas station in Sault Ste Marie.

Gregory said the incident is still under investigation.
