Clare boy and girl skiers win Alpine Conference titles

Despite the windy weather, the Clare High School Ski team was incredible at Snow Snake on Monday.  In Central Alpine Ski Conference hosted by Mt. Pleasant, both the boys’ team and the girls’ team took the titles of Conference Champions.

In slalom, Clare secured all top five positions.  Jeffrey Staten lead the team in first place followed by Brett Acton in second place, Zack Brockway in third place, Jordan Hales in fourth place, and Charlie Bugbee in eighteenth place.  In giant slalom, the boys continued to excel with Brett Acton taking the first place title with Jeffrey Staten in second, Zack Brockway in third, Jordan Hales in eighth, Charlie Bugbee in tenth, and Timmy Badour in twelfth place.

Madi Cleary led the Lady Pioneers in slalom taking second place followed by Maggie Merillat in third place, Sierra Kwiatowski in fifth place, Molly Merrilat in seventh place, and Hannah Hofweber in tenth place.  In giant slalom, Maggie Merillat took second place followed by Madi Cleary in third place, Leah Bugbee in fifth place, Sierra Kwiatowski in seventh place, Hannah Hofweber in eight, and Alise Cronin in thirteenth.

Coach Jann Cleary said, “It’s very exciting to walk away from the conference meet with both teams taking first place.  Now we’re looking forward to regionals.”

This was the final Central Alpine Ski Conference meet for the 2013 season.  The Clare skiers will race at Crystal Mountain on Thursday for the regional meet.
