Clare earned a non-conference win at Coleman on Wednesday, Feb. 6, topping the Comets 62-50.
Coleman led the contest 13-12 after the first quarter but the Pioneers pulled ahead 24-23 at the half. Clare used a 17-14 edge in the third to lead 41-37 entering the fourth where Clare put the game away with a 21-point stanza.
Hunter Ruby was a key piece in the win, scoring all 17 of his points in the second half and finishing the game with 19 rebounds, five assists and four blocks.
“Hunter had a great second half,” Clare head coach Rob Wise said. “He was physical and controlled the boards. That’s the type of performance we have been looking for all year.”
Colton Punches had 11 points, Scott Smith netted nine and Zach Pulcifer had eight.
Clare had its game on Friday, Feb. 8 against Roscommon postponed to Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The Pioneers (7-8 overall, 4-6 Jack Pine Conference) play at Gladwin tonight (Friday), at McBain on Monday and host Roscommon Tuesday.
