The Harrison Lady Hornets snapped its nine year post-season losing streak Monday night, throttling the Evart Lady Wildcats 43-27 in the first round of play at the Leroy Pine River district.
Harrison dominated play in the first half, jumping to leads of 11-4 after the first and led 25-6 at the half.
The pace of the game slowed down in the third but the Hornets managed to outscore Evart 8-4 in the frame to lead 33-10 entering the fourth.
The Wildcats scored 17 points to Harrison’s 10 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough to surmount the big Harrison lead.
Hillary Brewer led Harrison with 11 points and five rebounds, Katelynn Sherrick had nine points, five steals and five assists, Brooke Colville had eight points, Erica Heckman and Jessica Scherrer both had five points and Allison Lipovsky added seven rebounds.
On Thursday, Feb. 21 Harrison lost its final regular season game, 35-27 at the hands of visiting Meridian.
Harrison led the Jack Pine Conference contest 10-4 after the first and pulled ahead 17-9 at the half. The Lady Mustangs outscored the Hornets 10-6 in the third to close the gap to 23-19 entering the fourth.
Meridian went into a full-court press in the fourth, causing several Harrison turnovers that led to Meridian taking control of the game to earn the eight point win.
Brandi Powell led Harrison with 10 points, including hitting two three-pointers and also added five steals. Colville had five points, Heckman and Lipovsky both netted four and Brewer grabbed 10 rebounds.
Harrison (6-15 overall, 2-12 JPC) continued district play on Wednesday night against McBain (10-7). A win on Wednesday puts them in the finals tonight (Friday) against the winner of LeRoy Piner River (18-1) and Manton (6-15).
