The March 1 deadline for the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer for Children (SEBTC) demonstration project has been extended to give more local qualifying families the chance to receive a food package valued at up to $60 per student per month for June, July, and August 2013. Designed to help low-income families supplement their food budgets when school breakfast and school lunch meals are not readily available, the SEBTC project will provide 38,000 students state-wide with food benefits this summer.
In order to be considered for the benefits, qualifying families must complete and submit the SEBTC consent forms they received in the mail last month to their child’s school office immediately. A second mailing was sent out this week to those who have not yet submitted the consent forms.
Benefit recipients will be notified in May.
