Opportunity of a lifetime at the Clare Castle Senior Dining Center and other senior news!

It’s been a long and very cold winter; and while spring hasn’t exactly sprung, there does appear to be light at the end of the winter tunnel!  The snow banks are getting smaller, days are longer, the dog is shedding, and I do believe I see something that might become a lush green lawn any day now, just in time to get all brown and crispy under the July sun.  Hope springs eternal folks!

The Clare Castle Senior Dining Center staff, volunteers and seniors have sure tried to make the best of the long winter.  There were a few days we closed due to the conditions of the roads and the bitter cold – but overall, we hung in and got the job done.   We got together, played some bingo, played some cards and listened to some music.  We shared a meal together, laughed some and even cried a little.  We leaned on each other and held one another up.  We griped about the cold and talked about this being the way “winters use to be”.

Right now at our center we are bidding our friends and longtime volunteer home delivered meal drivers, Deb and Lucy, a fond farewell.  Deb and Lucy have decided to retire their tires.  They have been an awesome driving force for us and for the homebound seniors that they have served.  We will miss you ladies and are forever in your debt for your kindness and generosity.

Volunteer home delivered meal driver Tom will be leaving us for a spell.  Thanks Tom so much for lending us a hand when we needed it.  We will miss you while you are away.  Hurry back friend!

As you can see, we are losing 3 volunteers at the Clare Castle!  We need your help people!  The route is 7 miles long and takes about 1.5 hours a day to run.  If you are looking for a rewarding volunteer experience, this is your chance to make a HUGE difference in the lives of our homebound friends and neighbors.  This isn’t just about bringing someone a meal, this is about human contact, a smiling face, a kind word.  It’s about making the world a better place.  You don’t have to make a daily commitment.  Volunteers for Clare County Senior Services can volunteer one day a week or as many days as they can.  Please call Carolyn at 386-7130 or stop by at 502 Beech St. 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. We can’t wait to meet you!  Stop in soon!
