Seven honored by Coleman Lions

Coleman Lions celebrated 77 years of service to the community with their 9th annual Charter Night Dinner and Auctions on October 21, 2017. During the evening several special awards were given. The Coleman Community garden committee was presented with “Heart of the Lion” awards for their vision and dedication to start a community garden that has since blossomed and expanded, providing fresh vegetables and herbs to everyone. The individuals receiving recognition were Jamie DeCatur, Carla Long, Kathy Methner, Billie Jo Parker, Nathan Reed and Janet Roman (not in attendance).

Also honored was Charles W Gordon a local business man and long time member of Coleman Lions prior to his death. His widow Lion Esther Gordon was presented with a Melvin Jones, a very prestigious award offered by Lions Clubs International. Also present were their children Garl, Glenda, Charla, Connie, Chandra and Lion Curt (pictured) and their spouses.

130 people attended the event at the VFW Hall where silent auctions, bucket draw and live auction allowed many to take prizes home. There were also several special games and prizes. The Heads & Tail game (cash) was won by Bill Smith of Gladwin. The 50/50 winner was Dan Gibbons of Onekama. Pam Schroeder also of Onekama won the Hundred Square game and took home a beautiful quilt made by Ruth Ramsey and donated by her daughter Greta Tigner. A kayak was won by Ann Roeseler who purchased the winning key in the “Open the Door” game! And the big prize, a ten-point crossbow was won by Mark Ruhle of Sanford.

Guests enjoyed a Swiss steak and roasted turkey dinner catered by Jenny’s Catering of Shepherd. Colt Johnson was a great auctioneer and was assisted by Micca and Rebecca Crampton.
