Mid Michigan College would like to acknowledge the students who recently completed the Local Corrections Officer Training Academy held on the Mt Pleasant Campus.

County Sheriff Officers Paige Eaves (Isabella), Elizabeth Jones (Gladwin), Nathaniel Bladecki (Arenac) and Mid Michigan College Pre-Service students Angela Firman (St. Louis), Luis Loya, and Josh Phenix (Alma) completed the program.

The 16-week academy offers a comprehensive, interactive instruction in various disciplines for Mid students and local correction officers from various Michigan Sheriff Departments. Training topics include custody and security, defensive tactics, first aid, suicide awareness, fire safety, and interpersonal communications.
The academy, which is certified by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Coordinating and Training Council, is an important element of providing the necessary skills for maintaining a safe, secure environment for correction officers, inmates, and county residents.

“Congratulations to our graduates who are dedicated to learning important skills in order to safely and effectively manage our inmate population. The training helps our corrections officers develop and practice the tools necessary to be successful in a high stress environment,” noted Barney Ledford, Criminal Justice Coordinator at Mid.
