Kevin Spicer-Torres and Levi Boynton both had standout seasons for the Clare boys’ track team. Spicer-Torres, known for his distance running and Boynton, known for his field events have been named the Clare County Review’s boys’ co-track athletes of the year.

Spicer-Torres ran the 800 meter, 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs this season. He went undefeated in the 1600 and 800 and was all Jack Pine Conference in both events. He was also a part of the conference winning 1600 meter relay team.

He was regional champion in the 1600 and was second place in the regional 800. His career best times are 2:00 in the 800 and 4:33 in the 1600.  Spicer-Torres, despite just graduating will continue to run at Alma College.

“Kevin leaves as one of the most consistently decorated runners of all time,” Clare boys’ head coach Adam Burhans said. “He’s a four-time state qualifier in cross and finally qualified in track. His heart is what I will miss most about him. He always made watching the finish of a race interesting because if he was close to someone, that someone was

going to have a hard time beating him with that famous kick of his.”

Levi Boynton, who just finished his junior season, took 11th in the shot put in the state also had a strong showing in the discus this season. Boynton won the JPC in and regionals in the shot put and was all-conference and all-region in the discus. His top throws were 48-1.75 and 146-3 respectively. He also medaled in every invitational the Pioneers competed in this season and was named co-League MVP in field events at the conference meet.

“Levi is still full of untapped potential and has already set big goals for himself next year,” Burhans said. “I’d love to see him make a push for all-state in one or both throws next season. He has the talent, and with his taste of the state finals this year, his hunger will only grow for his senior campaign.”
