19th year Clare golf head coach Chris Fedewa admits things didn’t go as planned for his team a year ago.
“Last year was a down year for us as we finished near the bottom of the Mid-Michigan Golf Conference,” he said.
Junior Zack Brockway is the team’s top returning golfer, having been first team all-conference a year ago. Others returning are junior Grant Good and sophomore Andrew Witter.
New to the team are seniors Braxton Gomez, Blake Beatty, David Medfor, sophomores Dakota Johnson and Bryan Davis along with freshman Justin Boggs.
“We are going to rely heavily on Brockway and Good to lead the team this year,” Fedewa said. “Depth is going to be an issue for us this year and as always, we simply look to get better each day.”
The MMGC will be in it’s second year of existence, in a league that includes several Jack Pine Conference and other area teams.
“Roscommon won the conference last year but they lost a lot to graduation,” Fedewa said. “I have no idea how the conference is going to play out.”
Clare is scheduled to open the season at Farwell on April 15.
